PDF TOOL

PDF Metadata Editor

Inspect and correct the hidden information stored in a PDF: title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and creation date. Useful before publishing, when a document shows up in search under a filename instead of a real title.

How pdf metadata editor works

  1. Upload the PDFFurtu reads the document information dictionary and shows what is currently stored.
  2. Edit the fieldsChange any of the standard properties. Empty fields are cleared rather than left blank.
  3. Download the corrected fileThe pages are identical; only the stored properties differ.

What you get

Read and change the title, author, subject and keywords inside a PDF. Everything happens inside this page: the file is read by your browser, transformed in memory and handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload queue, no waiting for a server, and nothing left behind when you close the tab.

Supported formats

Furtu accepts .pdf files up to 500 MB each — one file at a time.

  • Every file is checked against its real file signature, not just its name, so a renamed or corrupt file is rejected with an explanation instead of failing halfway through.
  • Files over the limit are refused up front rather than after a long wait.

Limitations, stated up front

  • Custom XMP metadata streams are preserved but not edited.
  • Some scanners write per-page metadata that Furtu leaves untouched.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my PDF show a filename as its title?

Most programs only write a title if you set one. When the field is empty, readers fall back to the filename. Setting a real title is the single most useful thing you can do for how a document appears in search and in reader sidebars.

Does editing metadata re-encode the pages?

No. Only the document information dictionary is rewritten. Page content is copied untouched, so there is no quality change.

Do I have to fill in every field?

No. Only the fields you type in are changed, so a partially completed form never blanks out properties it did not mention. If nothing you typed differs from what the document already has, Furtu tells you rather than writing a file that looks like it changed.
