Rotate Image
Fix an image that came out sideways or upside down. A quarter-turn or a half-turn moves pixels around without resampling anything, so unlike a free rotation in an editor the result is exactly as sharp as the original — the same operation your camera and phone do automatically.
Only right-angle turns and mirrors are offered, because those are the transformations that cost no quality. There is no free arbitrary angle for good reason: any other angle has to resample every pixel, and the result is softer than the original.
How rotate image works
- Add your imageDrop in the picture. Furtu decodes it, applying any orientation tag the file already carries.
- Choose the turnPick 90°, 180° or 270°, or one of the two mirror options for a sideways scan that needs reflecting rather than turning.
- Download the corrected fileThe pixels are rearranged and written out as a new image, in the same format as the original unless you choose otherwise.
What you get
Turn an image 90°, 180° or 270° without softening it a single pixel. Everything happens inside this page: the file is read by your browser, transformed in memory and handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload queue, no waiting for a server, and nothing left behind when you close the tab.
Supported formats
Furtu accepts .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, .avif, .gif, .bmp, .svg, .ico, .heic, .heif files up to 100 MB each — one file at a time.
- Every file is checked against its real file signature, not just its name, so a renamed or corrupt file is rejected with an explanation instead of failing halfway through.
- Files over the limit are refused up front rather than after a long wait.
Limitations, stated up front
- Only right-angle turns and mirror flips are available. An arbitrary angle is deliberately not offered because it resamples and softens the image.
- The file is re-encoded, so a lossy format goes through one more compression pass. PNG is re-encoded losslessly.
- SVG and animated GIF are not supported: a canvas cannot re-encode vector art or preserve GIF animation.
- This tool handles one image at a time.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no free rotation angle?
Because it costs you quality. Turning by 90°, 180° or 270° rearranges whole pixels and does not invent or discard any, so the result is bit-for-bit as sharp as the input. Any other angle — 15°, 37°, anything — has to interpolate every pixel, which softens the image slightly. Rather than give you a slider that quietly degrades your photo, Furtu offers the lossless options and mirrors.
Why did my photo come out sideways?
Cameras and phones record the intended orientation in a hidden EXIF tag rather than turning the pixels. Some editors and upload forms drop that tag, and the picture ends up on its side. Furtu applies the tag when decoding, so the image you see is the one you shoot, and this tool fixes the cases where the tag was lost.
Are the images uploaded?
No. The rotation is done in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Does rotating change the file size much?
Very little. The same pixels are rearranged, so a rotated JPG lands within a few per cent of the original. A large change means the encoder is behaving differently rather than the rotation costing anything.
